Details from the funder

Working, independent US family farms or farms operated by a federally recognized tribe that own and manage livestock, derive income from farming and sell livestock products. Applicants must provide a recent Schedule F or comparable tax record if selected. Projects must improve eligible food animals' welfare; nonprofits, routine operating costs, land purchases and slaughter projects are excluded. A farm can receive only one of the two awards. Farms awarded a grant in 2026 cannot receive a 2027 Welfare Improvement grant, but may apply for a qualifying Systems Change and Innovation project.

About this grant

Welfare Improvement grants provide up to $3,500 for pasture access, animal living conditions and eligible welfare certification projects. Systems Change and Innovation grants provide up to $10,000. Both tracks support improvements to working livestock farms.
