The Unique Entity ID identifies your organization. Getting the number and completing registration are separate steps.

Choose the right SAM.gov route
SAM.gov offers full registration and a UEI-only request. Organizations applying directly for federal awards need registration. Some subaward reporting only requires an identifier; confirm your role with the awarding organization.
A UEI-only request uses your legal business name and physical address. Full registration requires additional information. Use the SAM.gov registration checklist if you plan to apply directly.
Connect the organization to Grants.gov
Follow Grants.gov’s applicant registration instructions to add the organization profile using its UEI. Then check the authorized submitter’s role before creating your application.
