Details from the funder
Individuals, teams or entities building the required reproducible AI system. Private entities must be incorporated in and maintain a primary place of business in the United States; an officer or employee must be their point of contact. Individuals and team leaders receiving cash must be U.S. citizens or permanent residents and participants must be at least 18. Other foreign team members may participate but cannot receive a cash share. Federal entities, federal employees acting within their duties, HHS employees in a personal capacity, federally funded research and development centers entering as entities, excluded/suspended/debarred parties, judges/competition personnel and their immediate families are ineligible. Other federal or FFRDC employees must consult ethics officials. Federal grant/cooperative-agreement/OT funds can support entries only consistently with their terms and through the awardee institution, with any winnings treated as program income; federal contract funds cannot support entries. Registration and acceptance of rules are mandatory, with a maximum of three submissions per task. Entries must satisfy data-use, documentation and reproducibility requirements, including the requested Docker package, source-code repository and instructions, and provide the required nonexclusive NIH licenses. Winners must return verification/payment documents within 14 business days. UEI registration is encouraged rather than mandatory.
About this grant
An NIH/NLM prize competition for AI-based biomedical information retrieval. The two tasks concern normalizing dbGaP study variables to ontology concepts and retrieving relevant genomic/phenotypic studies. Each task has a $125,000 purse: $100,000 for first place and $25,000 for second place, for $250,000 across both tasks. The same entrant may win in both tasks if each submission independently qualifies. Register and submit through the NIH Data Challenge Management Platform using eRA Commons or Login.gov; submissions require reproducible code and supporting documentation.
