US, DC, Tribal Nation or US territory residents age 21 or older creating original visual, digital/electronic, film/video or choreographic work. Average adjusted gross income across the last two federal returns cannot exceed $80,000 individually or $160,000 jointly. No degree-seeking students or Rauschenberg Medical/Dancer grantees within five years. At least one qualifying public presentation annually since 2022 is required; a medical/personal interruption up to 12 months may qualify with earlier activity. Student work, publications/interviews, commercial/work-for-hire productions and solely self-published/on-demand online work do not qualify. Film applicants must be credited directors, producers or co-makers; performers and crew are excluded. Instructional/competitive/commercial choreography is excluded. Emergencies must be unexpected and non-chronic, except a new diagnosis needing urgent stabilization or an unexpected severe worsening. Treatment must occur in the US within two weeks of onset. Only the artist’s own eligible expenses within 12 months of the emergency qualify. Routine/elective care, premiums, experimental treatments and other people’s expenses are excluded. Medicare/Medicaid recipients whose medical costs are covered may instead request documented essential living expenses under separate restrictions.
